Lakers' Derek Fisher Takes a Break From Basketball During the Off-Season, Should You?

Sometimes a brake can make all of the difference in the world. But only if you do it right. Read this quote from Derek Fisher published in the LA Times

"You think about only having [from] June 18 or 19 to Oct. 1 basically to give your body and your mind a chance to kind of reset and be ready to do it again; to me it just makes sense," Fisher said after Lakers' practice Monday. "But it's with the context of the additional training methods that I use."

Fisher said he does off-season exercise drills "so I don't need basketball to stay in shape."

Just don't sit idle and do nothing. Come up with a training program to keep you in shape and target other muscles than what you usually use while playing basketball. Also work on your core muscles and endurance. Just do something different than you usually do every once in a while during the off season. You will come back to the regular basketball more focused, rested and ready to take on new challenges.

Basketball Training- Train Hard and the Right Way and Achieve Amazing Results

When you train hard and the right way you can achieve amazing results no matter what your basketball training level is. Check out the excerpt of this article from indystar.com about Roy Hibbert.

Hibbert surprises Pacers with transformed body, improved game

"Even Danny Granger was stunned.

After training in Los Angeles and playing with USA Basketball in the World Championship, the Indiana Pacers forward returned this fall to find a physically transformed Roy Hibbert.

"When you don't see someone for two or three months, you can really tell a difference," Granger said. "He's lost a lot of weight. When we play pick-up, he's blocking shots. I don't think I've seen him miss a jump hook since I've been back..."

Reporters try Hoosier workout

Can you imagine reporters trying to complete a pro basketball team workout? Well it happened the other day and the results were exactly what you would expect. Here is an excerpt from the article:

"BLOOMINGTON — I made it perhaps a minute into the workout before my legs began to feel like jelly.

All right, so I’m not the most physically fit guy, but I wasn’t alone in this room. Tom Crean and the Indiana Hoosiers basketball staff threw open the doors of their wonderful new training facility at Cook Hall to members of the Indiana sporting press and two dozen of us took them up on the offer. The catch was, we had to go through the same workout the team goes through every day."
